Why you should shop with small business

Why you should shop with small business

Each year brings more national chains displacing locally-owned businesses throughout the country.

Local business owners are more likely to give back to your community. Beyond actual dollars being kept within your local community – which is significantly higher when dollars are spent at a local business vs. corporate one – small business owners are also more likely to “do good” for your community, as well. Small businesses deliver community character and economic advantages to the town they are positioned in, but also strengthen partnerships among neighbors, residents, other small business owners, community leaders and even schools by offering social and economic relationships. Many also support local causes, creating even more good within a community.

When you consider brand names like Lladro, Swarovski, or Michael Aram you have to also consider that the prices identified on them for sale are identified by the vendor – not the store. With some exceptions, stores primarily have no control over a product price but rather are provided a MSRP (Manufactured Suggested Retail Price) that tells them the price the product should be sold at. Over time, if the product doesn’t sell or a store has a promotional event taking place, this price may be lowered. But generally speaking, vendors want their products sold at their suggested rate, therefore retailers are not encouraged to lower them unless it’s discussed in advance – such as stores like Nordstrom do for their famous Anniversary Sale.

How is Lladro made

How is Lladro made

Every Lladró piece of work is the result of a laborious artistic process. Sculptors follow their own inspiration but also perform, if the work requires it, a meticulous process of research and documentation. This is often the case with pieces or collections that reflect other cultures.

Every Lladro creation begins with an artistic inspiration. The sculptor then makes the first sketch of the new figure in clay, which is examined and approved by the Creativity Committee, made up by many members, one of whom comes from the Lladró family. The sketch, in clay, is reproduced in plaster to provide the first mold, which will in turn become the definitive mold for the porcelain figurine.
A mid-sized figurine may need between 15 and 20 molds and up to 300 for complex pieces. The fragments coming from these molds are joined by liquid porcelain paste to obtain an exact reproduction of the original model.

Getting to know Moser-Glass

Getting to know Moser-Glass

Moser Glassworks was founded in 1857 in Karlovy Vary by the excellent engraver and businessmen Ludwig Moser. Only shortly after opening his glassworks, he became a supplier for the imperial court. Thanks to its beauty and uniqueness, luxury Moser crystal has been used for more than one hundred and fifty years in the stately homes and palaces of kings, statesmen and governments. Moser is also popular with celebrities, who set the trend in the luxurious lifestyles.

From the very beginning the fame of Moser Glassworks has been based on the handmade art of master glassmakers, cutters, painters and engravers. Each piece created is unique and requires precise, step by step mastery of the entire hand production process. The secrets of their artistic and craftsmanship skills have been traditionally handed down from generation to generation. Being a master at Moser Glassworks means to be a world-recognized expert in your profession.
